About
Katy Lake's work explores the intersections of art, visual culture, activism, and social justice. Her research moves across transnational feminist art movements, the aesthetics of protest and solidarity, religious kitsch, and multimodal literature, with a particular interest in how images, texts, and creative practices travel across borders and take on new meanings along the way. Her current work examines the aesthetics and collective practices of the Fearless Collective while developing the concept of transversive reclamation to think about how art can carry political struggles beyond the places in which they originate. Alongside her scholarship and publications, Katy has spent more than a decade teaching writing, literature, and cultural analysis in international classrooms, and maintains her own creative practice across visual and mixed-media forms. Whether in the classroom, in the field, in the studio, or on the page, she is drawn to the same fundamental question: how do the stories and images we create help us understand - and perhaps reshape - the worlds we inhabit?
